Dohany Street Synagogue, Budapest

The “Great Synagogue” of Budapest is the largest in Europe. It was build in the mid 1800’s in the Moorish revival style, and includes a museum and a memorial stainless-steel willow tree whose leaves are inscribed with the names of Hungarian Jews that died during the Holocaust. Over a half a million Hungarian Jews either died at Auschwitz or died in the ghettos of Budapest.
